Thieme Publishers is an award-winning international medical and science publisher serving health professionals and students for more than 100 years.
Thieme Publishers created and publically launched WinkingSkull.com in January 2008. The website was designed to help today's medical students and health professionals study and review anatomy using the best artwork out there. The website hosts the stunningly beautiful illustrations from Atlas of Anatomy.
Can I invite a friend?
Of course! WinkingSkull.com loves making new friends. Click on the Invite a Friend link at the upper right-hand corner of the page.
Do I have to pay to register?
Nope. It's completely free.

How do I select regions to study in the anatomy section?
First, make sure you're in the anatomy section. To get there, click "my account" and select "Atlas of Anatomy" under the 'content' portion of the page. Click on the region options at the left of your screen. Then select a topic. For example, clicking on the Back region link and then the Bones link will show you all images pertaining to this must-know concept.
Why can't I view the anatomy images with the colored labels?
These images with a green label are only available to WinkingSkull.com PRO members. These images will become available automatically once you purchase WinkingSkull PRO. Images with a blue or yellow label are available to customers who purchase selected anatomy products.
What is a WinkingSkull.com access code?
WinkingSkull.com access codes come with the purchase of any of these selected anatomy products. These products come with a WinkingSkull.com sticker on the front cover.
I'm on a study aid page in the anatomy section, why don't I see a "Test" button?
You will need to log in in order to get to the testing section on WinkingSkull.com.
Where does the "Test" button take me?
This brings you to the section where users are able to assess their progress via online tests for all body regions. Each test allows you to evaluate your comprehension of the material using a timer and to view your test results. Your scores are also compared against those of other test-takers.
There are so many beautiful illustrations in the anatomy section. Can I use them?
All the illustrations on WinkingSkull.com are subject to copyright law, and requests must go through our permissions department. If you are interested in purchasing or using illustrations from WinkingSkull.com, please contact our permissions department at permissions@thieme.com

2. Registration
Registering on WinkingSkull.com is easier than you might think. To register for a FREE, PLUS, or PRO account follow these simple steps:
Step 1 - Fill out your personal information
The entry form will look something like this.
Step 2 - Enter your WinkingSkull.com access code if you have one

Step 3 - Receive your activation email
When you complete the registration form, you should receive an email from us with a link to activate your account.
Please be sure to check your Spam or Junk areas of your inbox as the email is often mistaken as such.
If you still have not received your activation email with 1 hour, please contact webmaster@winkingskull.com.

3. WinkingSkull.com FREE
Once you register for an account on WinkingSkull.com, you will have access to 250 stunning anatomy images from Thieme's Atlas of Anatomy and 50 Obstetrics and Gynecology questions from Obstetrics and Gynecology: The Essentials of Clinical Care. Please read the directions below to learn how to navigate, study, and test yourself in each of these sections.
Anatomy
Select
- After logging in, select "Atlas of Anatomy" from the 'my content' section of the screen
- Navigate by selecting a region of the body and then a topic (i.e. Trunk / Bones)
Thumbnails will load into the filmstrip window
- Click on a thumbnail and you will be led to the study aid page for that particular anatomical region
Study
- Turn individual labels "on" or "off" to reveal or hide image labeling
When "labels off" is selected, you can cover or uncover individual labels by clicking next to the leader line of the image

Use the zoom slider to magnify images to an amazing level of clarity
Test
- Start test by selecting either a Count Up or Count Down timer
- Select if you would like to see label names one at a time or all together
- Drag
the label names and drop them at the correct location on the
image (mouse over the yellow button to find the hotspot to place your
answer)
- Click "Stop" if you are done before time is up or to stop the timer from counting
- Here you will have options to retake the test, move on to the next test, study this image more, or go back to the homepage
Statistics
- Click "My Account" link in the upper right-hand corner on the homepage
Click "Review Statistics"
- This page will show your average for all tests taken, as well as averages for all users.
Obstetrics and Gynecology
Select
- After logging in, select "Obstetrics and Gynecology" from the 'my content' section of the screen
- Available topics will appear in a list format with check boxes on the left. You may select as many topics as you like
- Choose the number of questions you would like to review in one session by typing a number (e.g. '5')
in the box at the bottom of the page.
Review
- The
review function will give you the opportunity to answer questions and
immediately see if you answered the question correctly or not
- Use
the arrow buttons to cycle through or skip questions, the stop button
to end the current session, and the rewind button to select a new
session
- You
will recieve three attempts to select the right answer. If you select
the incorrect answer three times the correct answer will be shown to you
- Each correct answer will display a green checkmark and each incorrect answer will display a red 'x'
- To show the answer immediately, click the "show answer" button
- Your results will appear once you've ended or completed a session

What are the system requirements for using all the capabilities of the site?
While you may find that new and improved WinkingSkull.com works with some older systems, we recommend the following as minimum requirements for using all the capabilities of the site:
